Teaching piano is a real joy for me. It is also a way for me to generate some income for my family without having to put my daughter, Katelyn, in daycare.

My very first piano lesson was when I was 7 years old. I have taken ten years of training since then. My training in college also consisted of private piano lessons, and some vocal training in a traveling singing group. I was trained from a classical perspective. This included scales, chords, music theory, some classical pieces by various composers, and church hymn playing.

In college, I accumulated 13 students. Once college was over I moved to this area and accumulated 27 students. Some time went by and my husband and I decided it was time to start a family. When Katelyn came along I was not able to keep every student because of time issues caring for an infant. Now she is 2 and I am ready to take on some new enrollments.

I have also had over 15 years of experience playing piano in church including congregational, choirs, small groups and special functions. A number of my students are now able to help in their churches as well.

Contests help to create and maintain interest throughout the year. Students are encouraged to participate in contests and challenged to work hard and excel in five areas that will help them throughout their lives:
• Having a Good Attitude
• Paying Attention
• Practicing daily - teaches discipline
• Doing your best to pass your lesson book songs every week
• Memorizing a song a week

Once a year a piano recital is held for all students prepared to participate.

This is a great opportunity for students to demonstrate their progress as well as receive rewards for the contests that they participated in.

It is a wonderful time to invite family and friends to come as an encouragement to the students, as well as an enjoyable evening for those attending.
